Battlefield 2042 is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts. It is the seventeenth installment in the Battlefield series and the successor to 2018's Battlefield V. The game is scheduled to be released on November 19, 2021, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S. Was wir in jedem Falle festhalten können: Für Multiplayer-Fans ist BFV ein neues Highlight und punktet mit sinnvollen neuen Mechaniken, wie dem Fortifications-System, Munitionsnachschub als logistischer Herausforderung und überarbeitetem Panzer-Gameplay. Aber auch die Waffen spielen sich besser und nachvollziehbarer, als noch in Battlefield 1.

Ein besonderes Highlight sind die 8 Launch-Karten, die mit optischer Vielfalt begeistern und für jeden Spielstil etwas bieten – ob Panzerfahrer, Pilot oder Fußsoldat. Weniger gut fällt dagegen die singleplayer-Kampagne aus: Keine der War Storys konnte uns im Test so richtig überzeugen.

Kleiner Wermutstropfen auch für Multiplayer-Spieler: Zum Release gibt es mit Briten und Deutschen lediglich zwei spielbare Fraktionen. Immerhin sollen weitere Parteien, Maps, Schauplätze, Waffen und Fahrzeuge nach dem Launch in regelmäßigen Abständen als kostenlose Upgrades erscheinen. Das Premium-Modell der Vorgänger ist nämlich nicht mehr dabei.
