Israel has launched air strikes on Iran, with blasts heard in the capital Tehran.

Israel's military says the strikes were on Iranian military targets and all its planes have returned safely.

Military bases in the west and south west of the Iranian capital were targeted, according to an Iranian news agency, but Iranian state media is so far denying there was any real damage.

The Israel Defense Forces say the strikes are in response to "months of continuous attacks" from Iran and after a barrage of Iranian missiles hit Israel on 1 October.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer says Iran should not respond to Israeli strikes, speaking at a press conference in Samoa.

Thousands of Tommy Robinson supporters have gathered in central London for a planned protest which the political activist will miss after he was remanded into custody by police.

Chants of “Oh Tommy, Tommy” and “We want Starmer out” were heard outside Victoria station ahead of the Unite The Kingdom rally on Saturday.

The demonstration is expected to be met with a counter-protest organised by Stand Up to Racism, which has called on its supporters to “take to the streets” in a “massive anti-fascist demonstration”.

Donald Trump's election campaign is accusing UK Labour of sponsoring activists to support Kamala Harris in battleground US states.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer says the campaign is not unusual and maintains he has a good relationship with the Republican nominee.

The Labour Party's head of operations posted on social media last week saying the party will be sending nearly 100 staff, both current and former, to battleground states.

The Trump campaign's lawyers quoted the post in a letter to the Federal Election Authority calling on them to investigate the Labour Party for blatant foreign interference in the presidential election campaign.

Labour denies any wrongdoing.

The amount employers pay in national insurance is set to rise in next week's budget to raise money for public services.

The budget is set to take place at 12.30pm on Wednesday 30 October.
