He rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s, appearing in numerous films that have since become classics, such as "This Gun for Hire," "The Blue Dahlia," and "Shane." Ladd was known for his rough-hewn, tough-guy image, and he established himself as one of the most popular and bankable stars of his era. Despite a relatively brief career, he left an indelible impact on the film industry and remains a legendary figure to this day.

China is a 1943 film directed by John Farrow and starring Loretta Young, Alan Ladd and William Bendix. Ladd's character David Llewellyn Jones, wearing a fedora, a leather jacket, khakis and a beard stubble, was an inspiration for Indiana Jones. Aside from Tala Birell as one of Jones' paramours at the beginning of the film, the entire supporting cast is Asian, including Philip Ahn and Richard Loo.

PLOT : In 1941 China, amidst civil war and Japanese occupation, Captain Tao-Yuan-Kai seeks to execute American David Jones for selling oil to the Japanese. When Japanese aircraft bomb their town, Jones and his partner Johnny Sparrow flee to Shanghai with a baby they’ve found.After nightfall, they are stopped by refugees, but American schoolteacher Carolyn Grant intervenes. She sneaks her students into the truck, and with her local knowledge, takes over driving. Jones reluctantly keeps them on board when he learns they are Carolyn's students.The next day, they meet Carolyn's guerrilla-connected brothers, Lin Cho and Lin Yun, who warn them of an approaching Japanese force. They detour to Tan Ying's farm for milk, where Carolyn pleads with Jones to take the students to Chungtu instead of Shanghai. After leaving the baby at the farm, they abandon their truck due to Japanese air attacks, but Lin Cho's guerrillas shoot down the plane.Carolyn insists on returning for Tan Ying, only to find her farm burned and her family killed. Jones kills the Japanese soldiers attacking Tan Ying, who dies shortly after. Moved by the struggle, Jones decides to join the fight. He and the brothers raid a Japanese camp to steal dynamite needed to close a mountain pass and prevent further Japanese advances.During the raid, Lin Wei and most of the guerrillas are killed, but Jones and the remaining fighters manage to secure the dynamite. Carolyn, in love with Jones, rejects Johnny's proposal. The next day, Jones distracts the Japanese convoy, allowing the dynamite to be detonated and bury the Japanese troops in an avalanche. Jones is killed, and Carolyn and Johnny take the students to safety in Chungtu.

Apart from the legacy of his movies, Alan Ladd left behind a close- knit family which counts among its members some of filmdom’s greatest successes.

In the 1942 This Gun For Hire, he was only a supporting actor. But his portrayal of a cold, ruthless killer with a core of gentle sadness had an impact on audiences everywhere. Teamed with diminutive Veronica Lake, he became an immediately saleable commodity, and in the process helped launch the age of film noir. By 1954, Photoplay Magazine voted him the world’s most popular male film star; his fellow award-winner was Marilyn Monroe. But Alan Ladd’s fabulous success already contained within it the mechanism to self-destruct. A deprived childhood and a family tragedy that marked his young manhood, these would exact their toll. Dogged by a sense of inadequacy over his only average stature, Ladd suffered keenly from cruel jests about co-stars being compelled to stand in ditches. Despite the ardent support of his ever present agent/wife and the genuine affection of film crews and co-actors alike, these inner wounds remained. And though in the end his inner demons would destroy him, Alan Ladd’s story is also a positive one.

Confederate veteran John Chandler (Alan Ladd) returns from defeat in war to find his home razed, his wife dead and his young son, David (David Ladd), traumatized and rendered mute. Desperate to cure the boy, Chandler takes David to a small town in Illinois where he hopes to find a doctor. A struggling artist in a small town becomes the prime suspect when his wife mysteriously disappears.

13 West Street is a 1962 American neo noir crime film directed by Philip Leacock and starring Rod Steiger and Alan Ladd whose own production company produced the film. It was based on the 1957 novel The Tiger Among Us (1957) by Leigh Brackett, who called the film "very, very dull".

Plot
A rocket scientist, Walt Sherrill, is driving along a empty city street at night when his car breaks down. After he is almost run down by a speeding car, he is assaulted and viciously beaten by the occupants, a group of well-dressed young men, the opposite of a slum dwelling street gang. When the police, including investigating juvenile officer Detective Koleski, are - in Sherill's opinion - acting too slowly and seem too busy to focus on finding the culprits, Sherill decides to go after them on his own.

This quest becomes an obsession for Sherrill which threatens the stability of both his job and his marriage. Sherrill proves to be an amateur sleuth at best, going over ground the police have already covered. His wife uncomfortably watches him use a gun he has purchased to take target practice on tin cans.

One night, Sherill spots a convertible that resembles one belonging to his assailants and tails it at high speed. The driver turns out to be a frightened teenage girl who calls the police, and Sherill spends an uncomfortable night in the holding tank before Koleski has him released.

Sherill hires Finney, a private investigator, whose work leads him to Chuck Landry, the gang's leader. Sherill's non-stop search for revenge causes one member of the gang to commit suicide. Landry counters by luring Finney to a dangerous section of road where he is killed, then coming to Sherill's home where he menaces his wife and plans to shoot Sherill when he returns home. Landry escapes from the police but Sherill takes the boy's address from his abandoned car, and is waiting there when Landry arrives. Sherrill beats him savagely with his cane. On the verge of killing him by drowning him in the Landry family's swimming pool, Sherill finally relents, turning Landry over to Koleski to be placed under arrest. Tracey and Walt leave the scene to go home.

Sadly, both Alan Ladd and his son have passed away. Both made incredible strides in the film industry and are missed by their colleagues and fans alike. But how did they get their start in the film industry and what were their major achievements?

Alan Ladd was born in 1913 in the resort city of Hot Springs, Arkansas – far away from the glamour of the burgeoning film industry. However, due to the economic troubles of his childhood – his family eventually moved to California, in search of more opportunities and stable life. Little did they know that it was here where young Alan would make his name.

He became interested in acting during his high school years and that’s when he decided to pursue his craft as a career. He was discovered by a talent agent and soon signed a contract to work with Universal Pictures.

And he never looked back after that. While he did have to take on various odd jobs during the early years of his career, it was clear that he was a talented actor whose talents were being recognized.

He soon found that he had a knack for Westerns. He went on to act in some of the most famous Western films of all time. But he also had many struggles in his personal life – which led to his untimely death in 1964.

Alan Ladd had a son who went on to become a successful film producer. Alan Ladd Jr carried on the torch lit by his father to help create some of the best films in American cinematic history. He passed away on March 2nd, 2022 – almost forty years after his father’s death.

Based on a story by Sloan Nibley, the film is about a railroad construction engineer whose plans to build a railroad line between Nevada's Carson City and Virginia City are met with hostility by the locals, who feel the trains will attract outlaws. Filmed on location at Iverson Ranch, Bell Ranch, and Bronson Canyon in Griffith Park,[3] Carson City was Warner Bros.' first film shot in WarnerColor.

Comanche Station is a 1960 American CinemaScope Western film directed by Budd Boetticher and starring Randolph Scott. The film was the last of Boetticher's late 1950s Ranown Cycle. It was filmed in the Eastern Sierra area of Central California near Lone Pine, California, not far from the foot of Mount Whitney. The towering granitic boulders known as the Alabama Hills served as the backdrop for the film's opening and closing scenes.

The Walking Hills is a 1949 American Western film directed by John Sturges and starring Randolph Scott and Ella Raines. The film's plot has film noir elements in its story of a search for an old treasure by nine men including a detective tracking a fugitive, several others who have things to hide, and a love triangle involving the two leads and the fugitive.

The film was shot in the Alabama Hills of California and Death Valley National Monument, locations Sturges returned to a few years later to film his classic Bad Day at Black Rock.

During a poker game in a Mexican bar, a group of men discover the location of a lost wagon train -- and its cargo of gold. To prevent one man from cheating the rest, it's decided that they will find it together. Among them are horse breeder Jim Carey (Randolph Scott) and rodeo rider Shep Wilson (William Bishop) ; like their cohorts in the treasure hunt, they share a tangled history -- Chris Jackson (Ella Raines), Shep's current sweetheart, is Jim's old flame. "Exzellenter, unterschätzter Film, der, wie ich vermute, in die Public Domain gefallen ist, weil nur billige Kopien von Originalabzügen erhältlich zu sein scheinen. Randolph Scott ist felsenfest in der bescheidenen Charakterisierung eines bescheidenen, aber moralischen Mannes, der als mäßigender Einfluss zwischen drei verschiedenen Gruppen agiert, den Viehzüchtern, den Siedlern und den Händlern in einer Stadt an der Grenze. Jeder hat seine eigene Agenda, und die verlockendste Verlockung für Scott auf der bösen Seite der Stadt ist die freche, aber fesselnde Dance-Hall-Sängerin Ann Dvorak in einer der besten Darbietungen ihrer Karriere, die in ihren verschiedenen Nummern so frisch und sexy ist, dass ich mir gut vorstellen kann, dass ein ganzer Raum voller Cowboys einfach nur da sitzen würde, mucksmäuschenstill, mit offenem Mund, und sie anstarren würde, während sie durch ihre Lieder tanzt und flirtet. Es gibt nicht eine langweilige oder überflüssige Szene in dem Film, mit vielen gut besetzten Charakteren, Faustkämpfen, Schießereien, einer Rinderstampede, Romantik, Komödie und erstklassiger Film-Noir-Beleuchtung und Dialogen für diejenigen, die es interessiert. Und neben all dem ist mir erst beim dritten Mal, als ich den Film gesehen habe, aufgefallen, dass Scotts Pferd ihm wie ein Haushund folgt, wenn er zu Fuß unterwegs ist. Sehr subtil, vom Regisseur nie in den Mittelpunkt gerückt, einer der alten Hasen, die den Sinn dafür hatten, das Publikum seine eigenen Interessenpunkte finden zu lassen. The film was directed by Rouben Mamoulian and written by Oscar Hammerstein II and George O'Neil, with lyrics by Hammerstein and music by Jerome Kern. It was released by Paramount Pictures.

Plot
In 1859, Doc Watterson brings his traveling medicine show to Titusville, Pennsylvania. After the show wagon is destroyed by an accidental fire, Mrs. Cortlandt and her grandson Peter invite the Wattersons and the show's fake Indian, Mac, to stay with them. Peter and Sally fall in love.

Terrorizing 1866 Indiana, the Reno brothers gang uses the town of Seymour as a safe haven, paying off three crooked town officials. Sent in to clean up the gang is Peterson Detective Agency operative James Barlow, who poses as an outlaw to gain the confidence of the officials and the thick-headed brothers. Complicating matters are Barlow's feelings for the Reno sister, Laura, who reluctantly keeps house for the boys out of family loyalty. Events heat up and rage surfaces as Barlow sets up the gang in a dawn train robbery.

Carroll Naish, and Myron Healey are infiltrated again, this time by former Confederate super-spy Randolph Scott, sent by the Peterson (Pinkerton?) Detective Agency. A slight cut above some of Scott's usual 1950's B-westerns (the ones not directed by Budd Boetticher), this has really good production values, entertaining heavies, as well as a script with some great hard-boiled moments and bits of nasty (for the 50's) violence. Also, you can't go wrong with Edger Buchanan as a crooked judge!

The cast is amazing for what had to be a fairly low budget RKO picture from the mid-1950's; Randolph Scott was an established star while Forrest Tucker, J. Carrol Naish, and Denver Pyle were all established, talented Western performers and Edgar Buchanan was one of the best Western character actors of all time. What hurts the movie severely and is its major flaw is the setting. Nothing about one single shot of the film looks anything like Southern Indiana or anywhere else in the Midwest, and exactly like California, where it was actually shot. This lack of authenticity is distracting, in some scenes more than others, but never completely destroys the fine performances. Like some of the others, I would like to know more about the historical Reno Brothers and how closely this film represents their true story; I'm sure that it's somewhat closer than Elvis' ''Love Me Tender'', which is about the same topic and came out the next year." "Excellent, under-appreciated movie, which I suspect fell into public domain because only cheap copies from original prints seem to be available. Randolph Scott is rock solid in the unassuming characterization of a modest but moral man acting as a moderating influence between three distinct groups, the cattlemen, the homesteaders and the tradesmen in a frontier town. Each have their own agendas, and the most alluring enticement for Scott on the bad side of town is the brassy but captivating dance hall singer, Ann Dvorak, in one of the best performances of her career, who is so fresh and sexy in her several numbers that I can well believe a whole roomful of cowboys would just sit there, stone silent with their mouths open, staring at her as she dances and flirts through her songs. I don't know if her voice was her own or dubbed, but she could sure deliver those lyrics!

There's not a dull or extraneous scene in the movie, with many well cast characters, fistfights, gunfights, a cattle stampede, romance, comedy and first-rate film noir lighting and dialogue for those who care. And besides all that, I didn't notice until about the third time I'd watched it, Scott's horse follows him around when he's on foot like a pet dog. Very subtle, never made a focus of attention by the director, one of the old-timers who had the sense to let audiences find their own points of interest. I think it's a classic." FRONTIER MARSHAL, the first authorized film version of Wyatt Earp, and the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral, stars Randolph Scott as Wyatt Earp and Cesar Romero as Doc Holliday.

The 1939 western movie is based on Stuart N. Lake’s book, WYATT EARP, FRONTIER MARSHAL, published in 1931. Lake had spent time interviewing Earp, and his book created the legend that we know today. Not only was Lake's biography the basis for FRONTIER MARSHAL (1939) starring Randolph Scott, but the book has also been used for subsequent films about the peacemaker, including John Ford’s remake, MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946), and later GUNFIGHT AT THE O.K. CORRAL (1957), TOMBSTONE (1993), WYATT EARP (1994) and the Hugh O’Brian TV series, THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF WYATT EARP, done in 1955, which had the still living Stuart Lake as a consultant.

Randolph Scott makes a pretty good Wyatt, and there are those who think that Cesar Romero’s Doc (“Halliday” in this film, and a surgeon, not a dentist?) was even better than Victor Mature in MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. I always find it interesting to compare remakes, and the Ford/Dwan comparison is a doozy. At 71 minutes, FRONTIER MARSHAL moves right along as director Allan Dwan was not given the running time, or budget, that Ford was able to spend on atmosphere, locations, and deeper characterizations.

Actor Ward Bond is in both versions. In FRONTIER MARSHAL and, seven years later, MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. Bond is the ineffective town Marshal in this one and Morgan Earp in the later version, which delves more deeply into family bonds and the rivalry between the Earps and Clantons. Actor Charlie Stevens, falsely publicized for years as the grandson of Geronimo, has the role of “Indian Charley” in both versions and in RKO’s “Tombstone: The Town Too Tough to Die” with Richard Dix. I can’t deny that Ford was very influenced by this film. It has many of the same inaccuracies.

The rest of the cast lifts this version to A-movie status, even without the magnificent Monument Valley landscape. Binnie Barnes is Doc’s prostitute girlfriend and much less childish than Linda Darnell was in the Ford version. Alan Mowbray’s Shakespearean actor is missing, but instead, we have Eddie Foy Jr. portraying his real-life father as a traveling entertainer and Nancy Kelly as Sarah Allen.

The trio of bad guys in FRONTIER MARSHALL are a special gang of villains. There's John Carradine who runs things as a saloon owner, Lon Chaney, Jr. who has a run-in with Doc, and Joe Sawyer as Curly Bill. You’ll spot a familiar array of western veterans like Chris-Pin Martin (who had been Cisco Kid’s sidekick to Cesar Romero’s Cisco), Richard Alexander, Edward Norris, Hank Bell, Si Jenks, and former B western leading man Tom Tyler.

While most of the film takes place in the town of Tombstone, at night, there are several sequences shot at…you guessed it, the Alabama Hills of Lone Pine, CA.

In 1931 a film based on a fictional novel about Earp’s exploits by W.R. Burnett, with a script by a young John Huston, was made starring Walter Huston and Harry Carey Sr called LAW AND ORDER. However, that film did not use the Earp or Holiday names, which makes FRONTIER MARSHAL the first to showcase their fame. There is action and quite a few laughs in store for you. Vazgen "Vaz", a former mobster turned successful businessman, is enjoying a peaceful life with his family. Maalik New Released Full Hindi Dubbed Movie | Ramcharan New South Action Movies 2024 | New Movies

Sachidanandan (Mohanlal) has been serving double life imprisonment for the murders of the man who constantly troubled his stepmother and a police officer who harassed his friends in jail. He is finally released from the jail after long 24 years, thanks to the constant efforts of his younger brother Manu (Sarjano Khalid). However, life in jail has completely changed Sachidanandan who now wants to live peacefully with his family, and he finds it difficult to lead a normal life. Following some unexpected turns of events, Manu is kidnapped and Sachidanandan is forced to return to his old life to save his brother. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Western movie action explodes in the classic Zane Grey western movie KNIGHTS OF THE RANGE from 1940. It stars Hopalong Cassidy’s favorite sidekick, Russell Hayden. Like the Hoppy films, it is loaded with exceptional production values both in front of and behind the camera. Based on Grey’s novel, “Bad Men of Nevada,” KNIGHTS OF THE RANGE reunites Hayden with his friend and mentor, Hopalong Cassidy cinematographer Russell Harlan, for some stunning vistas and thrilling action. More Hoppy veterans include director Lesley Selander, composer Victor Young and the fabulous actor Victor Jory (GONE WITH THE WIND, THE SHADOW).

The story begins with Russell on the wrong side of the law, caught up with a gang of outlaws run by Morris Ankrum. Jory is a shady gambler trying to woo and marry headstrong Jean Parker. As expected from a Zane Grey story, there are lots of twists, turns and secrets that keep the film moving at a very brisk pace.

You all know Russell Hayden from his sidekick days as Hopalong Cassidy’s lovelorn sidekick. Those wonderful B+ westerns were produced by Harry “Pop” Sherman. When Hoppy’s first young sidekick, James Ellison left the series, Sherman plucked Hayden, who had been working as an assistant cameraman and sound recorder behind the cameras, to replace Ellison. Born Hayden Lucid, the novice actor took the name of his friend and mentor, cameraman Russell Harlan to become Russell Hayden. The tall good looking Hayden joined Hoppy on the 10th film in the series playing the role of “Lucky” for a total of 27 Hoppy films. He was so popular Sherman decided to give him the lead in several features of his own.

In 1950, Russell Hayden teamed with James Ellison to star in and produce a series of very low budget westerns for Lippert with Raymond Hatton and Betty Adams, who later changed her on screen name to Julie and became a very popular leading lady in both films and television. On TV, Hayden and former silent movie child actor, Jackie Coogan, starred in the syndicated series, COWBOY G-MEN. During the 1950s TV western boom, businessman Russell also partnered with actor, and frequent villain, Dick Curtis, to create and build the western movie location, Pioneertown.

Western Union western TV series episode pilot starring Richard Anderson this is the pilot episode of a suggested TV series titled Western Union from about 1958. This is episode 14 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions. In this episode Richard Anderson stars as Steve Gibson, a western union man whose job it is to set posts and string the wire for the telegraph. He has to overcome many obstacles to accomplish his job. This is the only known existing episode of this show. It is a shame because it looks like this could have been a very good series. This is a rough copy a bit blurry but still watchable. It is a miracle that there is any copy of this film at all. Also in this episode are Don Haggerty, Peter Breck, Phyllis Coates and Raymond Hatton. The film editor is Irving Berlin. The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years. Almost lost forever, these rare television film treasures are now being released and uploaded for free viewing from the http://www.westernsontheweb.com archive collection. The Shooting is a 1966 western film directed by Monte Hellman, with a screenplay by Carole Eastman (using the pseudonym "Adrien Joyce"). It stars Warren Oates, Millie Perkins, Will Hutchins, and Jack Nicholson, and was produced by Nicholson and Hellman. The story is about two men who are hired by a mysterious woman to accompany her to a town located many miles across the desert. During their journey, they are closely tracked by a black-clad gunslinger who seems intent on killing all of them.

The film was shot in 1965 in the Utah desert, back-to-back with Hellman's similar western, Ride in the Whirlwind, which also starred Nicholson. Both films were shown at several international film festivals but it was not until 1968 that the U.S. distribution rights were purchased by the Walter Reade Organization. No other domestic distributor had expressed any interest in the films.

PLOT (Wikipedia): Willet Gashade (Oates), a former bounty hunter, returns to his small mining camp after a lengthy absence and finds his slow-witted friend Coley (Will Hutchins) in a state of fear. Coley explains to Gashade that their partner, Leland Drum (B. J. Merholz), had been shot to death two days before by an unseen assassin. The killing was possibly committed in revenge for the accidental trampling death of "a little person" in town, which may have been caused by Gashade's brother, Coin. Coin had inexplicably rushed away from their camp moments before the shooting death. Gashade and Coley become increasingly paranoid, and Gashade takes his friend's gun away from him.

The following day, a young woman (Perkins) shoots her horse to death immediately outside of the camp. The sound of the gunshot temporarily sends the frightened Coley into hiding. Gashade examines the dead horse and notes that it appeared to be perfectly healthy. The woman offers Gashade a thousand dollars to lead her to a place called Kingsley. Although openly distrustful of her, he grudgingly accepts the offer. Coley, apparently smitten by the woman, accompanies them.

The young woman is rude and insulting to both Gashade and Coley. She refuses to tell them her name. The three stop briefly in Crosstree. Gashade learns that Coin was seen there only a day or two before. As they continue traveling slowly through the hot desert, Gashade observes that they are being followed by a stranger dressed in black, Billy Spear (Nicholson), who continues to keep his distance from them. Gashade sees that the woman appears to be signaling to the man. Coley makes attempts to talk to the woman but she continually taunts and insults him. She also repeatedly refuses to answer any of Gashade's questions regarding the purpose of their journey.

The woman rides her horse hard. When it dies of exhaustion, Coley gives his horse to the woman and Gashade allows Coley to ride with him. Later, the woman loses the trail and asks Gashade to lead on. Gashade's horse shows signs of fatigue so Gashade tells Coley to join the woman on her horse, but Spear forbids him from doing so. The woman says that the journey would be much easier without Coley. She and Spear demand that he be left behind. Gashade, under threat by Spear, reluctantly agrees and tells Coley he will come back for him soon.

The three see a bearded man (Charles Eastman) sitting in the middle of the desert nursing a broken leg. The man tells the woman that the person she is seeking is only one day's ride away. She leaves him a canteen of water. Meanwhile, the bearded man's lost horse is found by Coley. He mounts the horse, and rides back to the group. He charges Spear. Spear shoots him dead. Gashade buries his friend in the sand.

All of the horses die. The group runs out of water, but they still keep moving. Gashade sees Spear growing weaker and attacks him. After knocking him unconscious, Gashade grabs a large rock and crushes the killer's gun hand. Gashade walks after the woman, who is now closely following a man up the side of a rock formation. The man turns around and Gashade sees that the man is his look-alike brother, Coin. Gashade attempts to tackle the woman as she pulls out a gun and takes aim at Coin, but it is too late: Coin and the woman shoot each other dead. Gashade, lying next to the woman's corpse, whispers, "Coin." Spear stumbles aimlessly under the hot sun.

I don’t think I’m spoiling anyone's idea about dueling, but in the real west dueling was not a thing. Typically if there was a gunfight it was an ambush, not a face to face duel that Hollywood has created for dramatic effect. Having said that, we are here to celebrate the movies, not the real life gunplay in the wild west.
