British Treasury minister Darren Jones says the government is "unlikely" to accept Nigel Farage's offer to act as an intermediary with US President-elect Donald Trump.

Farage, a friend of Trump, had offered to facilitate communication between the British government and the incoming administration.

Speaking with Sky News UK on Sunday, Jones said Farage should focus on his constituents and not mediating with Trump.

I think that's probably unlikely," he said.

"My advice to Mr Farage would be he might want to concentrate his efforts on the constituents in Clacton that elected him to office, as opposed to spending his time in the United States of America."
